| No other event in music did more to change rock music from the hands of bands control topromoters and record company executives. Not only did Monterey bring fame to such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Otis Redding and others, but it also spawned a feeding frenzy to sign-up almost any band from San Franciso. Unfortunately, this was the start of a long journey of greed for many of the participants. None-the-less, the performances at Monterey were truly outstanding - that is with the exception of the Grateful Dead maybe. |
